The Icons of the Sage, Duelist, and Guardian, known collectively as the Icon of the Goddess are Memory Stones in Rune Fencer Illyia. Each one grants a different effect, with a different downside to balance out.

Appearance

Each of the Icons take a similar appearance, with the symbol that represents them being etched onto a faded green rock. The symbols are either a staff (Sage), sword (Duelist), or shield (Guardian).

How to Acquire

This will be one of the first things you acquire in Rune Fencer Illyia. Upon starting the game, you will land upon a platform, with 3 glowing sigils, one of a staff, one of a sword, and one of a shield, hovering above pillars. You will be asked to choose your strength. Once you have chosen your strength, that sigil will disappear, and you will be asked to sacrifice one of the two remaining sigils. Doing so will give you a particular Icon, and depending on what you chose as your strength and weakness, the Icon will have a different effect.

Effects

Each icon will give you a different strength; however, the icon you chose to sacrifice will have a downside attached to that icon.

Strength

  • Duelist: Charged attacks and Combo Finishers deal increased damage.
  • Guardian: Grants a protective runic shield while channeling Emerald Focus.
  • Sage: Runic spells cost less. Hidden Effect: Slowly regenerates runic gauge.

Sacrifice

  • Shield: Take more damage when hit.
  • Staff: Runic spells cost more.
  • Sword: Deal less physical damage.

Trivia

When you attempt to sacrifice one of the sigils, someone will speak to you, depending on which sigil you attempt to sacrifice:

Sword Sigil: Rejection. Your only talent...and still, you throw it away. What are you without it?

Shield Sigil: Arrogance. You can't protect anyone, or yourself. A soldier without a shield is the first to die. How are you any different?

Staff Sigil: Resignation. So quick to abandon your aspirations. But you were never going to make it, were you?
